Brooklands 1932. The world’s first and possibly greatest purpose built race circuit.
Requisitioned by the UK Government at the outbreak of WW2, factories were built on the track (to produce Hurricane fighters and bombers) and trees planted to disguise the outline from the air. After the war there was too much damage to the surface and it couldn’t be used for racing again.
Sadly, very little of the track remains. The majority of Brooklands is an industrial state but there is a good museum.
We’re really good at museums in the UK. We love looking back at how great it used to be.
